High School Recruiting

W

e often get asked questions about what players should be doing and when regarding getting recruited. Although every school is slightly different and there are always exceptions to the rules, here is a general outline of your recruiting calendar:

Sophomore Year

Sophmore Year

Fall of your Sophomore Year:

  • Attend Fall Recruiting Tournament (i.e. IWLCA President’s Cup).
  • Compile a list of schools you are interested in.
  • Visit as many schools unofficially as you can Winter 2010/2011.
  • Attend winter camps/clinics.
  • Maintain your skills and play in the off season – attend winter tournaments if possible.

 

Spring of your Sophomore Year:

  • Video your spring HS games.
  • Send highlight video of spring HS season to college coaches at schools you are interested in.

 

Summer after your Sophomore Year- Leading into your Junior Year:

  • Attend Summer Recruiting Tournament (i.e. IWLCA Capital Cup).
  • Maintain email contact with schools you are interested in.
  • Email coaches your Summer Tournament Schedule.
  • Send a re-cap to coaches 1 week after the Summer Tournament.
  • Attend Showcase events that you are invited to participate in.
Junior Yeear

Junior Year

Fall of your Junior Year:

  • Take strong academic classes and get A’s and B’s in them.
  • Visit as many schools unofficially as you can.
  • Take SAT/ACT.
  • E-mail and/or call college coaches you are interested in playing for.
  • Inquire about JR Days and/or Winter Camps/Clinics.
  • Attend Fall Recruiting Tournament (i.e. IWLCA President’s Cup).
  • Create 3-5 min highlight video from spring/summer 2010.
  • Send video to college coaches 2 weeks prior to Fall Tournament.
  • Send college coaches e-mail of Fall Tournament Schedule.
  • Video games at Fall Tournament if possible.
  • One week after Fall Tournament send college coaches a short recap of your performance at tournament (1-2 mins).

 

Winter of your Junior Year:

  • Retake SAT/ACT – attend JR Days, camps, and clinics of the schools you are interested in.
  • Maintain your skills and play in the off season – attend tournaments if possible.
  • Maintain e-mail contact with coaches at least once a month of the schools you are interested in.

 

Spring of your Junior Year:

  • Video your spring HS games.
  • Maintain e-mail contact with coaches you are interested in. Follow their teams online and let the coach know you know something about their program.
  • Try to attend games of schools you are interested if possible. Pay attention to coaches styles; how teammates get along on field; how many members of the team actually play in games; etc.
  • Send highlight video of spring HS season to college coaches at schools you are interested in.

 

Summer after your Junior year – leading into your Senior year:

  • Attend Summer Recruiting Tournament (i.e. IWLCA Capital Cup)
  • Maintain e-mail contact with coaches you are interested in.
  • Email your Summer Tournament schedule to coaches that you are interested in.
  • Video games if possible – follow up one week after the Tournament with coaches.
  • Attend Showcase events that you are invited to participate it.
